ORGAN FUNDRAISING

Wow—wasn't that great timing? By now you've probably heard that file St. Joseph's Choir has began raising funds to replace the church organ, which is beginning to Show its age. The current organ began showing problems just after Christmas 2004. Recently during a practice, one of the notes stopped working. Earlier in the year a speaker needed repairs, and another one is due for rep airs how. The bottom line is in corning years we can pay a lot of money to repair the organ, but technology has come so far that with some effort by members of the choir, and with the generosity of me community, we can raise funds to replace the organ with amazing instrument. Talk of replacing the organ began in early 2005, with the knowledge that it would take a year to raise the funds.

Members of the choir know expensive life can be, and how often we’re asked to contribute to this or that. Our bills and taxes never seem to go down, do they? At a time when you’re being asked to donate more to your parish in time and money, as well as to Missionaries and Hurricane Katrina funds, the last thing any of the choir members want to do is asked for more money, but the reality is that it will delay itself just because we want it to.

No, we're going to start working on the problem today, so we don't find ourselves stuck in the future. You can say we’re trying to head off a problem before it occurs.

Please only consider donating to the Church organ fund if you can afford to do so. We prefer that you take care of other things first, like paying your taxes and increasing your donation to the weekly collection, if possible. Then, after all your bills are paid, if you have some extra funds to work with, we hope you'll consider donating to the organ fund. As of this time, the choir has already raised $9,500.00.

The new church organ will glorify not the organists that play it, nor the choir; nor the parishioners. The new church organ will glorify God. He deserves the very best we're capable of, so that's what we're going to try to do.

 Sincerely,
Members of the St. Joseph’s Choir

St. Joseph's Schola 2004

ST. JOSEPH’S SCHOLA

“The Schola” is a contemporary Christian ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists.  We participate throughout the year at the Msgr. O’Reilly Hurley Mission at 10:00 Mass on Sunday.  The group rehearses on Tuesday evenings (at the Mission) from 7:30 – 9:00 PM.  In addition to singing for Sunday liturgies, Schola performs at various area venues i.e.  caroling at Mohonk Mountain House, UPAC and for the Uptown Business Association.  We conduct an annual “All Souls Service of Remembrance” at St. Joseph’s Church around All Souls Day.

The group recently produced its first CD recording:  “Schola Song:  Christmas & Advent.”  This CD was sold throughout the greater Kingston area with great success!  Over the past 10 years Schola has also sung at weddings, funerals, parish celebrations (throughout the county) and concerts.  Many of the Schola are featured vocalists, available for weddings and funerals.

Call Bob Gaus at 331-0631 if you would be interested in joining us.  Young people from age 14 are welcomed in addition to high school, college, adult and seniors!

The Youth Choir of St. Joseph’s Church, under the direction of Mrs. Maria Davenport, is 3 years old… and growing by leaps and bounds!  Junior High and Elementary School children are welcomed to contact Maria.  The group rehearses at the Hurley Mission at 9:00 AM on Sunday mornings.  The younger children meet around 9:30.  The Youth Choir, which currently has about 20 members, frequently sings with the Schola during Mass.  They participated in the Schola’s Christmas CD project and were featured on three songs!  Some of our older Youth Choir members Cantor at Mass.  Parents are encouraged to contact Maria at 339-7433.
